For all of those who have played Silent Hill and have been anxiously awaiting this sequel, there are lots of things you can recognize from the original. There are tons of little memories from the first Silent Hill that come back to haunt you. However, none of the original characters are in this game. Some of the things that you might have remembered from the first Silent Hill that reoccur in this game are listed as follows.
1. Alternate Silent Hill- you remember how Harry used to get migraines and hear the sirens and go in and out of Alternate Silent Hill (also called Nightmare or Dark Silent Hill). The floors were grated and chains swung from the ceilings. Mutilated corpses seemed to be at every corner and blood stains covered the walls. Well we get to see that again in Silent Hill
2. Fog/ Darkness- Yep, you better believe this is still there! Silent Hill just wouldn't be the same without the disability to see 2 feet in front of yourself.
3. Weapons- You have a lot of the same weapons from the first one; pipe, handgun, shotgun, rifle, chainsaw. You also have some new ones, but a lot are copies from the first one.
4. Replay Games- Yes! There are replay games! You have to play through and save to get each ending! There are a total of 5 endings. One of them doesn't require you to beat the full game though. It's the equivalent to the Alien Ending.
5. Flashlight- You still need a flashlight to see around in the dark. One scarey thing about the SH2 flashlight however, is that it runs out of batteries! Eeek!
6. Keys in Doghouses- After beating the game with the "Rebirth" ending, you can get a key from a doghouse near Jack's Inn. Remember getting the key from the dog house on Levin st.? hehe.
7. Radio- You still have the radio, but it sounds a bit different. Still works the same, as in monster alert, that is.
8. Kicking- You still have to kick monsters when they're on the floor and slightly dead. I love doing that =D The Patient Demons pose a bit of a threat though. They will actually crawl around if you don't stomp them out quick enough!
9. The Mark of Samael- I only noticed it once so far in the game, but it's possible I wasn't paying total attention to my surroundings. In the lobby area where you fight the Pyramid Head Duo, the mark of Samael is present on the floor.
10. Stuff in Boiler Rooms- Silent Hill creators must think Boiler Rooms are really scarey for some reason because they just love including them in the game. In the first Silent Hill, the boiler room was where you faced your first boss. In SH2, you just get some items. Maybe they got the idea from Nightmare on Elm St.
11. Sewer Areas- In the Labyrinth, you are running in and out of a sewer like area, and near the well also. In Silent Hill, you also had to pass through the sewers to get to the lake.
12. Room Warping- Towards the end of SH2 there is some slight room warping. You did this in Nowhere in the first SH.
13. Annoying Little Girls- What could be more frightening then annoying little girls?! Not much! Well, personally, I thought Cheryl was very annoying, and Laura is pretty annoying as well, up until the end.
